Quote of the Day

'“Need” now means wanting someone else’s money. “Greed” means wanting to keep your own. “Compassion” is when a politician arranges the transfer.'
-Joseph Sobran

Trunk-or-Treat

We had our ward's trunk-or-treat last night, and we had a really good time. I, of course, waited until the last minute to finish up the kids' costumes, so I was running around like a mad woman before it began. (Can anyone explain to me why it started at 6 on a week night? How does everyone get home from work, eat dinner, get costumes ready, and get out the door in time?) But it was worth it. The lighting wasn't good for pictures, so we didn't get very many that turned out well. We'll definitely be doing a photo shoot later on. But here are some pictures just so you have an idea what the kids looked like. And, I have to brag: I made each of the costumes myself!!

We only managed to get 2 photos of Katie with her wings on, and the other turned out blurry. I had to crop this one down so that you didn't have a million other people in the photo.

Here's Pepe Le Paul, reprising the role of "Skunk" that Katie played 2 years ago. I'm still really proud of this costume, and glad that it got some more use!

This picture really doesn't do the costume justice, but it was the best one we got last night. Is there anything cuter than a baby in a tutu? If there is, I can't think of it. Averi made an adorable bumblebee.

Katie learning how to do the YMCA. Notice the bare legs: her tights disappeared and we never were able to find them. And by this point, Paul had removed his tail.

Some Layouts

I keep my scrapbooking layouts on my desktop until I post them so that I don't forget any of them. It's good incentive; I know it's been a while when my desktop is so covered with icons I can't find anything. So without further ado...

Gotta Love Gymboree...

So I've tried a new thing this year. I've bought most of Katie and Paul's winter clothes off of ebay. There have been a few duds (certainly the thread-bare, dirty pajamas were losers), but overall I think it's been very successful. I've gotten several outfits from Gymboree for very decent prices, and they're ADORABLE. But the "Fox Trot" outfit is by far my favorite. And, of course, since I have the cutest 3-year-old, it makes the clothes look even better:

Averi's a Month Old!

Averi turned a month old on Thursday. I can't believe how quickly time has gone. We're always so busy--but we seem to get nothing accomplished! She's an extremely cuddly baby and believes she should always be held--awake or asleep. She's sleeping better at night now, but seems to think that, now that she's grown up, 1 o'clock is an appropriate bedtime. And in our bed. But she's really very good and quite mellow, most of the time. Here are some pictures I took of her last Saturday. She's getting so big and pretty!

First Bath

No, I'm not torturing my child; Averi's having her first bath here (obviously, this was taken a few weeks ago). After several baths, she doesn't seem to like them any more than the first one. I just thought I'd post this picture here because I thought it turned out pretty cute. And it will give my family in India a chance to see my new hair cut. And Mom, that's one of the shirts you bought for me. Just thought you'd like to see!

An Ode to Chick-Fil-A

Every once in a while, life requires fast-food dining. The one that we keep coming back to again and again is Chick-Fil-A. Why this food court staple, you may ask? First and foremost, it's convenient to where we do most of our shopping (and NOT in a food court).
Our other reasons are as follows:

  • According to Eat This, Not That (an extremely useful book, I might add): "Not a single sandwich breaks the 500-calorie barrier, a feat unmatched in the fast food world." This earns Chick-Fil-A their highest rating of an A+.
  • Chick-Fil-A uses whole breast meat in their sandwiches, nuggets, and strips.
  • Chick-Fil-A closes on Sundays.
  • It's about the only place in Albuquerque where you can get a thick shake.
  • Our kids love their playground.
So next time:
